Instructor  for Point Park University — Fall 2020, 2023 and 2024 semesters
  • School of Communication leadership sought me out when in need of an instructor
  • Led JOUR 150: Introduction to Journalistic Writing and Editing (2020), JOUR 406: Public Affairs Reporting (2023) and JOUR 420: Diversity in Communications (Fall 2023 and Fall 2024) during 1-hour and 20-minute-long class sessions twice weekly for 16 weeks
  • Discussed basics of journalistic writing, editing and ethics, grammar and AP style basics and guided newswriting final projects (for JOUR 150), invited guest speakers and acted as editor (for JOUR 406), and led discussions on cultural competency and best practices for including diverse sources (for JOUR 420)
  • Adapted engaging teaching techniques for in-person and hyflex, which included two cohorts alternating between sessions online and in-person with 12 students

  • Discussed basic principles of graphic design and layout using newspaper page design (photos, headlines) plus intro to Canva

Intro to Media Literacy  for Point Park Center for Media Innovation — 2019 to present
  • High-school and college student audience
  • Discusses "What makes something news?," news values, fake news and fact-checking strategies, tactics and tools
  • Led the hourlong presentation 20 times for visiting high school groups as the center's graduate assistant and a handful of times as guest speaker in Point Park journalism classes

Sexual Harassment Hits Home panel for "Building Bridges" SPJ Region 4 Conference — March 10, 2018
  • Plenary session opening the conference, which had more than 100 students and professionals from Western Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio in attendance
  • Discussed the #MeToo movement and its effect on women journalists, and how news organizations handle — or should handle — misconduct in their ranks.
